Roger Van Der Poel is an award-winning Portuguese-Dutch dancer. He started his dance education at the National Conservatory of Lisbon at the age of eighteen. His career as a dancer includes the Ballet Gulbenkian, the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève and, for fourteen consecutive seasons, the acclaimed Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT).
Jorge's work is famous for fusing the athleticism and excitement of sport with the visual appeal of an art installation. He is passionate about showing dancers as virtuosic and resilient individuals who together form a strong and compact team. Jorge holds a BSc in Sports Science, a PhD from Goldsmiths University and a Masters in Coaching Elite Athletes. He studied contemporary dance at the Real Conservatorio de Madrid and, after working as a professional dancer for different companies all over Europe, he became a full-time teacher at the London Contemporary Dance School (The Place) for four years. Today, Jorge is an award-winning choreographer whose work has been performed in major theatres around the world: from the prestigious New York City Centre (USA) to the avant-garde 798 District in Beijing (China) or Sadlers Wells and the Royal Opera House in London (UK). In recent years, he has received commissions from companies such as Scottish Dance Theatre (UK), Beijing 9 Contemporary Dance Theatre (China) and Acosta Danza (Cuba), among others.
